Psychological Bodywork

Ready to move onto the next phase but struggling to embody it?

Let me help free up space in your body for it to take its next form.

How Psychological Bodywork Supports Clients

No matter what you’re doing, your body is constantly adapting to an ideal configuration to sustain that lifestyle. From the functioning of cells, to the state of muscles, to the transmission of force throughout the body, to the stories the mind generates - the body adapts to enable the life you’re living. In many ways, this is a marvel. However, it becomes a challenge when you’re yearning for change.

When a client wants to move into a new phase in their life, they usually find that their body offers resistance to this change. This is natural - because the body was built for the lifestyle that came before. A new life will need a new body, and psychological bodywork helps to move the body in that direction.

I combine talk with touch. I put clients on the table and work to release long held holding patterns in the body while engaging in active tracking and dialogue with the client about why the body is being held in that state.

This disrupts the status quo as a system. The body all works together - and it moves together. Emotions and internal narratives feed into postural holding patterns - and the state of the body feeds into the mind. Working on one without working on the other often leads to stagnation - because they have to move together. By working on the body and the mind as a system, we can gently move into a new way of being. I work with clients to ease out of existing holding patterns and make space for a new life.

The Bodywork

When a client is on the table, I’m pulling from a few techniques to reorganize the body. I do myofascial release, which helps return to the body to its natural center of gravity for force transmission and allows for a smooth flow of energy. I work on muscles through trigger point release to release adhesions and contractions that limit movement. I hold or tap on acupressure points to return the body to a natural, smooth flow of energy. I offer assisted stretching, both to move the muscles to functional length and to guide the fascial body into mechanically eased force transmission. The whole time, I’m doing energy clearing and balancing, trying to remove anything that no longer fits or belongs.

The Mind Work

The bodywork moves slowly so that I can talk with the client about what is arising as their body shifts. Here I intuitively draw from diverse training in mindfulness, coaching and psychotherapy. I pull from inner listening / focusing to track the wisdom of the body, inner family systems to ask what is protective and what is vulnerable, compassion focused treatment to keep a warm perspective on the body’s effort to support the client, and somatic experiencing to ask what change does the body need to release what is stored. By doing this, we work to understand why the body is being held as it is, and begin to find trust that the client can be safe in a new life.

The Logistics

Place: Brooklyn Heights

Price: $250 for 90 minutes, sliding scale available below $100,000 here

How Long: I believe even one session of deep work can re-orient a client. While I have many long-term weekly clients, I don’t see this as the only model. My hope is to work with each client to determine how much support they need at this point in their life. You can schedule an intake call here to discuss your particular needs.

Not Massage

While I have over 800 hours of training in massage therapy and bodywork, I won’t be licensed for massage therapy in New York until mid-2026. I have been careful to design this service to only include the bodywork I can lawfully perform.
