Body Wisdom Coaching

Is the script society handed you feeling hollow?

I can help you tap into your body’s natural wisdom and start living from your own truth.

How Body Wisdom Coaching Supports Clients

Almost all of my clients come to me at the same impasse: they’ve done everything “right” but they feel hollow - and they’re ashamed that they aren’t more grateful for what they have. They’re not looking to be fixed. They’re looking to figure out what it means to be.

The work we do together is grounded in a clear philosophy: every human has a natural center of gravity, an easy flow to life that is entirely their own. No matter how “successful” they are, life will feel off if they’re moving against the flow. Body wisdom coaching supports clients in finding a new, warm way of relating to themselves. From here, we can tap into what feels true for the client, and move into an embodied, vibrant life.

This work sees all sensations and experiences as teachers. No matter what a client is going through, what they are feeling, or what thoughts are arising - we will take time to sit with it and see why attention is being drawn. This is radical for many of my clients - because they spent years shutting down and suppressing parts of themselves that wouldn’t comply. They even used psychotherapy to sustain this. Together, we flip the script and assume their mind-body isn’t misfiring or irrational, but drawing attention to something that needs to be heard. Together, we finally listen.

This work sees the body and mind as one. While this work relationship uses talk, it explores the mind-body as a single system. We move seamlessly between working with the cognitive body (talk, meditation, behavioral planning) and physical body (breathwork, stretching, movement), allowing lived experience to be worked though as an adaptation of a whole system, not just as a narrative created by the mind.

Working with the Mind

Typically, at the beginning of every session, I let a client rant for up to 15 minutes. Once that’s done, we pick a focus and get to work. We spend most of the session in a mindful state, in which we settle into present moment awareness and track somatic sensations, emotions, and thoughts as they arise. This allows space to stay with what’s happening calmly and non-judgmentally. From that place, I pull from inner family systems, inner focusing, and compassion focused treatment - asking directed but open questions seeking to understand the innate wisdom in what we’re observing together. If I see that a trait could be valuably strengthened, I will guide active meditation focused on that skill. When we’ve made significant insight, sometimes we will use visualization and intention to release long-stored beliefs. When we’ve entered a period of work where behavioral change is important, we will finish each session with goal setting and behavioral strategies.

Working with the Body

In body wisdom coaching, I don’t touch clients. Instead I support the client to work with their own body in a responsive way while training them to do this for themselves. I guide breathwork to regulate the nervous system, develop CO2 tolerance, and clear energy. I support conscious movement and verbalization, asking clients to adjust their body or make noise from inner wisdom - from tremoring to release stored stress to screaming to complete a frozen traumatic memory. I coach clients through self-touch to release resourceful hormones, and through acupressure work to support an easy flow of energy through the body. When a client’s mood is creating a posture, we will use postural pendulation to move in and out of that holding, tracking how posture is affecting and reinforcing their inner state. I will sometimes lead clients through stretching or yoga if it would be helpful to move a stored holding pattern while discussing what arises. In the background, I am always doing energy balancing and clearing, working to make sure neither I nor my client stay weighed down by things that have been worked through and can be allowed to leave.

The Logistics

Place: Online or Brooklyn Heights

Price: $150 for 50 minutes, sliding scale for clients below $100,000 here

How Long: I believe even one session of deep work can re-orient a client. While I have many long-term weekly clients, I don’t see this as the only model. My hope is to work with each client to determine how much support they need at this point in their life. You can schedule an intake call here to discuss your particular needs.

This Moves Beyond Psychotherapy

While I am licensed for psychotherapy in NY, I intentionally left the profession. Psychotherapy is defined by diagnosing clients as ill or their behaviors as maladaptive - and working to correct this. I don’t see clients like this. I see their whole experience as being something holding wisdom - to be listened to. So I took what I thought was helpful from psychotherapy and I put it into something more holistic - a framework that allowed clients to have truths that were anti-normative, anti-colonial, anti-capitalist, or even anti-social. This work isn’t to “fix you.” Rather, it’s to help you to “see you” and “be you.”
